Zafar ul Hassan

Zafar ul Hasan is the Joint Chief Economist for Macroeconomics section at the Planning Commission of Pakistan. Mr. Hassan previously worked as the Chief Poverty Alleviation and SDGs Section from 2014 to 20018. He devised many policies and their implementation in terms of poverty mitigation and the regulation of Sustainable Development Goals. Furthermore, he worked as Project Director for Pakistan Initiatives on Sustainable Development Goals from 2015 to 2018. He drafted National Framework on SDGs and social protection framework. Mr. Hassan also served as the Chief Macroeconomics Section in the Planning Commission of Pakistan from 2012 to 2014 and worked on Social Accounting Matrix with IFPRI. He also served the Government of Pakistan as a joint Economic Adviser in Ministry of Finance from 2011 to 2012. From 2009 to 2011, Mr. Hassan also worked as a Deputy Secretary in Ministry of Finance and devised and implemented numerous economic and financial policies for the economic growth of Pakistan and its rise towards a developed country.

Mr. Hassan has a wide experience in writing policy briefs and research articles in the domain of economics and finance. He has been an active member of Institute of Policy Studies Islamabad as an author and wrote many briefs and policy papers related to economic security of Pakistan. He has completed many professional training from well-known institutes including IMF Institute, World Bank Institute and Asian Development Bank. His contribution in the domain of research writing includes many research articles and papers related to Macroeconomics, fiscal policy and social developments.
