Project Brief:

Does the digitization of land records reduce corruption in the land administration department? is a main question that I aim to answer through this research. Employing a quasi-experimental design, I aim to estimate the effect of early access to the Punjab Land Record Management Information System (PLRMIS) on the land-related corruption in government departments using data from Anti-Corruption Establishment Punjab. The findings of this research will provide evidence of the impact of PLRMIS and will help to understand the effectiveness of digitization and e-governance systems in improving land administration and reducing information asymmetry.

 Public Policy Relevance:

By promoting anti-corruption measures, enhancing digital capabilities, and fostering collaboration, the project aims to support the integration of digitalization initiatives, leading to transparent and efficient land administration systems and overall structural transformation in the region. In addition, the after the outcome of this research project, the LRMIS could be upscaled to all provinces of Pakistan to fight corruption. The findings can inform public investment decisions and policy-making processes by providing evidence on the impact of digitalization on corruption and the potential for improving governance and transparency in the land sector.
