Project Brief:

Pakistani industries have been facing difficulties in overcoming the global challenge of technology-based industrial revolution 4.0. Keeping in view the digitisation in Pakistan, this study aims to investigate the effect of the big data analytics capability of Pakistani industries on their competitive

advantage. As firms strategise their businesses based on everchanging market landscapes, the study also investigates the role of business model innovation as a mediator between the relationship of big data analytics capability and competitive aggressiveness and environmental uncertainty as a moderator between big data analytics capabilities and business model innovation. The targeted population for the study is the telecommunication sector of Pakistan currently using big data

analytics. As the spread of the telecommunication sector is over the large geographical area of Pakistan, a multi-stage sampling technique will be used for sampling. Telecommunication sector as our sampling frame, the firms will be divided into clusters based on various regions. The firms in these clusters will then be randomly selected for the interviews and data collection. Initially, the focal persons from the higher tier having experience and knowledge will be contacted for interviews. Later, the survey questionnaires will be randomly distributed amongst the respondents identified by the focal persons. The data collection will be analyzed using PLS-SEM. The results of this study will help recommend policies.

Public Policy Relevance:

The results of this study will help in understanding the industry’s perspective towards the involvement of information technologies to gain competitive advantage. This study will also uncover if environmental uncertainty has any effect on the firm’s competitive advantage. The investigation carried out in this study will provide a basic understanding regarding the industry’s alignment to the nationally adopted sustainable development goal of technological reforming of the industry.
